Olive
Welcome to Olive Room
Led by: Mrs Donnelly and Mrs Pygott
LSAs: Miss Kettle
Our Olive provision is designed to support children with additional needs, particularly those who find the mainstream classroom overwhelming. In Olive, children have the opportunity to learn in a smaller, play-based environment, where the curriculum is tailored to meet their unique needs.
We assess each child's progress using the Cherry Garden SEND framework, which allows us to track their development in areas related to learning differences and disabilities. With a personalised approach, we adapt learning experiences across six key curriculum areas, ensuring each child’s individual needs are at the centre of their learning journey.
To monitor and share progress, we use Tapestry, a platform where we upload photos, videos, and observations. This makes it easy to keep parents and carers updated with regular, engaging insights into their child's progress. We also encourage parents and carers to share achievements from home on Tapestry, so we can celebrate each child's milestones together.
A Typical Morning in Olive Room
The day in Olive Room begins with children registering in their mainstream classroom before heading to Olive Room at 8:50. The morning starts with a phonics lesson, using a blend of the Little Wandle Foundations and SEND programmes to support each child's individual learning needs.
After phonics, the children engage in group reading and learning through play, building cross-curricular skills through interactive and hands-on activities.
Before break, it's time for Literacy, where the children focus on the rhyme or story of the week, enhancing their language development. They then join their mainstream classes for snack and break time, before returning to Olive Room for Maths. In line with the NCETM Mastery Maths planning, the children explore mathematical concepts through hands-on learning and small group work with an adult.
The morning ends with a short session of Attention Bucket activities, designed to help improve focus and concentration. Following this, the children head to lunch with their classmates before returning to their mainstream classes for the afternoon.
