Our class is made up of enthusiastic and creative Year 4 children. At the beginning of September we discussed the three Golden Rules where we focus on being respectful, safe and ready to learn. We all try hard to always have a positive growth mindset - we may not be able to do something straight away but we persevere!
Our classroom is a fun, engaging and welcoming space where every class member feels valued, safe and listened to. Have a look at our photo gallery to see some of the things that we do.
Things to remember
Daily: Reading book and diary, water bottle and snack.
PE: PE lessons will be on a Tuesday morning so please ensure that the children have their kit in school. Please ensure that earrings are removed on PE days.
Homework and spellings will be given every Friday and marked and tested the following Friday. Children have the opportunity to come in at lunch time on Monday to have help with any homework/spelling queries.
In year 4, we encourage to children to develop a strong love for reading. Rewards are given for reading at home during the week and quizzing. Children are encouraged to quiz at least once a week. |
Spring term 1
English
In English, we are using a new scheme called Literacy Tree. 'Literacy Tree is a complete, book-based platform for primary schools, covering all Primary English curriculum requirements, training and support. Use it as a framework to build your curriculum or adapt it to suit your school, academy, or trust.'
Writing:
In Spring term one, year 4 will be looking at the book Winter's Child by Angela McAllister. In this unit we will be focusing on descriptive poems, postcards, dialogue, setting descriptions as letters and retelling a story.
We will also be looking at the book Cinnamon by Neil Gairmen. In this unit we will be focusing on diaries, informal letters, dialogue, adverts, limericks and other poetic forms.
Reading
Our two books we will be investigating this term are How Does a Lighthouse Work? By Roman Belyaev and Tamarind and the Star of Ishta by Jasbinder Bilan.
Class Book
This term we will be reading Dream Weavers: Night of the Scary Fairies.
Blurb:
When Tito becomes friends with the mysterious new girl at school, Neena, she introduces him to the world of Dream weaving. Soon Tito and Neena are going on adventures every night – exploring dreams where quirky creatures called jinn roam. And when their classmates start acting strangely, they realize someone else is using Dream weaving to cause chaos. Can Tito and Neena stop them before the dream world takes over the waking world?
Spellings
We also use Literacy Tree for our spellings - they are known as spelling seeds.
'Spelling Seeds: Teach spelling and vocabulary in context through investigation and application. These sequences complement Writing Roots, using the same texts for additional short writing opportunities.'
The spellings are given every week on a Friday along with other homework and tested the following Friday.
Maths
Year 4 take a national times tables test so they need to know ALL of their times tables. Please encourage your child to practice their times tables on a daily basis. Times Tables Rockstars is one way to get in lots of practice. See the link below to access this.
In Maths lessons we will learning about multiplication and division, length and perimeter, fractions and decimals.
