Our classroom is a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, respected, and valued. We follow our classroom rules, show kindness and respect to others, and work together to create a positive learning atmosphere. We encourage one another, celebrate achievements big and small, and support each other when challenges arise and know that we learn from our marvellous mistakes! We know team work makes the dream work and we know practice makes perminent! 

Things to remember;

PE days

Willow class are scheduled to have PE on Tuesdays , however sometimes they may do additional PE sessions so we encourage all children to have their PE kit in school for the half term whereby they can bring them home at half terms/holidays for a wash.

Spellings

Children will receive a list of spelling words in their homework books (also found on both their homework sheets and above) which link to the phase 5 sounds. Your child will also receive some tricky words and some words from the year 3/4 statutory spelling list below. Please ensure your child learns these each week for a weekly test. 

English:

This half term we will be focusing on 'the first drawing'.  This will encourage the pupils to work on their character description, diary entry and recount skills. So far, they have really enjoyed this text as they can link back to their History learning on the Stone Age from year 2! 

As we continue our class books, please feel free to ask your child for book updates on the story so far! 

  

Reading;

As we use a new framework 'Literacy Tree' we now have new story books in school. This means that as we study a book in class, we have 1 book between 2, which means the children can access the text throughout the day and share the book closely with a friend to discuss various details. We focus on Retrieval skills, Vocabulary, Prediction, Explanation, Inference and summarising.

 

Maths:

We are currently learning about place value, including that of partitioning numbers up to, and beyonmd, the value of 1,000 After this we will be working on our addition and subtraction skills, using what we know about place value to be successful. 

We will also be focusing on times tables, so please encourage your child to learn them- they can also do this on Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) where we have set this years times tables as well as last years to recap and embed. This term we are focusing on our 3 time tables and our 4 time tables. Once the pupils turn their charts green they will receive a special badge and certificate in assembly (and of course Dojos). So watch this space!

In Maths, we are following the structure of the White Rose scheme. White Rose is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths, well linked to the developing of a positive growth mindset and strong reasoning and problem solving skills. ALL children have access to Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) so please download the app and begin (or continue) practicing at home- we cannot stress enough the importance of the children's arithmetic and times table skills, especially as they move further up KS2. 

Science:

 

This term we are studying 'animals including humans'. Learning about the different food chains, what animals need to survive and the different parts of a skeleton. We will link this to what we already know and link this to our own human survival and what we need in comparison to animals! We look forward to learning practically, asking questions, finding answers and  generally exploring our topic. 

Geography: 

In Geography, we will be learning about Ancient Greece. We have already had the opportunity to link this to our Art project where we looked at sculptures and unique designs to then recreate our own. 

Throughout this topic we will be looking at different coastlines, terrains, mountains, the climate and the culture itself. We look forward to exploring the beautiful buildings, public baths and the sparta life of Greece's inhabitants! 

RE:

We will be exploring key questions during RE and this term our focus will be on 'How do people express commitment to a religion or world-view in different ways?'

Art:

We are studying Architecture. This unit is about creating elevations of buildings and ancient Greek statues/sculptures. We have already made our own versions and look forward to examining more Greek art.
