Our class is made up of enthusiastic and creative Year 4 children. At the beginning of every term we discuss the three Golden Rules and how we focus on being respectful, safe and ready to learn. We all try hard to always have a positive growth mindset - we may not be able to do something straight away but we persevere!
Our classroom is a fun, engaging and welcoming space where every class member feels valued, safe and listened to. We will be developing our photo gallery to enable you to see some of the things that we have been doing.
Things to remember

Daily: Reading book and diary, water bottle and snack. PE: PE lessons vary by day, weekly so please ensure that the children have their kit in school all the time. Please ensure that earrings are removed on any PE days. Homework and spellings will be given every half-term and are marked and tested every Monday. Children have the opportunity to come in at lunch times to get help with any homework/spelling queries. In year 4, we encourage children to develop a strong love for reading. Rewards are given for reading at home during the week and quizzing. Children are encouraged to quiz at least once a week. |
Autumn term 1
English
In English, we are using the Literacy Tree scheme. 'Literacy Tree is a complete, book-based platform for primary schools, covering all Primary English curriculum requirements, training and support.
Writing:
In Summer term 2, year 4 will be looking at the books Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold and Varmints by Helen Ward. In these units we will be focusing on descriptive poems, persuasion, narrative, characterisation and retelling a story.

Reading
The two books that we will be investigating this half-term are Zombierella by Joseph Coelho and Annis Lumsden, The Girl From The Sea by David Alman.
Class Book
This term we will reading Enid Blyton's, The Castle of Adventure.

Spellings
We also use Literacy Tree for our spellings - they are known as spelling seeds.
'Spelling Seeds: Teach spelling and vocabulary in context through investigation and application. These sequences complement Writing Roots, using the same texts for additional short writing opportunities.'
The spellings are given every week on a Monday. For other homework, check the half-term plan that is in DOJO and for which the children have a paper copy.
Maths
Year 4 take a national times tables test so they need to know ALL of their times tables. Please encourage your child to practice their times tables on a daily basis. Times Tables Rockstars is one way to get in lots of practice. See the link below to access this.
In Maths lessons we will learn more about place value in the thousands, addition, subtraction and rounding to the nearest 10,100 and 1000.
